SARS Programme: Tax Technician Qualification

Enrollment in this course is by invitation only

About This Course

An opportunity has emerged for SARS employees in the core Tax business areas to obtain a full qualification, as well as acquire a nationally recognised designation in the field of taxation. The SARS Institute of Learning (SIOL) is proud to announce the implementation of the Tax Technician Qualification at National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 6 with 399 credits as per the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Quality Council for Trade and Occupations (QCTO) standards and accreditation.

The Tax Technician Qualification (TTQ) is a new programme in SIOL, and is considerably critical to employees without a tertiary qualification who major in taxation because it will equip them with the knowledge, skills and competence to fulfil their roles within the tax environment, and in addition, allow them to acquire the designation Tax Technician.

For the initial phase, the programme targets to enrol 85 employees in mid-November 2018 within Direct Channels, Tax Payer Service, SIOL and Compliance Audit. The TTQ will be delivered through classroom intervention in Gauteng, Kwa Zulu Natal, Western Cape, as well as through workplace experiential activities. SIOL aspires to capacitate itself to be able to offer the qualification in-house and therefore extend access of the qualification to every interested employee in future.

This qualification is a structured learning programme that consists of a theoretical and a practical component that leads to a professional qualification that is registered on the National Qualification Framework (NQF) and it consists of three components, namely, Knowledge, Practical Skills and Workplace Experience modules.

The TTQ adds to the efforts of SIOL in meeting its mandate, which is to build capacity by way of delivering training and development to SARS employees, by following a competency based and workplace learning approach to ensure that employees perform optimally. Furthermore, it contributes to promoting a culture where the workforce can thrive; by simultaneously developing their own talents and shaping their careers, while delivering world class service to taxpayers.
